Christmas at the Park will be held through December 31st from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Guthrie Smith Park.  Admission will be $1 per car. Pictures with Santa will be taken  Dec. 6th and Dec. 13th for $7.  Train rides will be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at the cost of $1 per person.  Everyone is invited to come out and see the beautiful lights and displays.

Fayette Area Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday, Dec. 2nd at 12 noon at the Fayette Civic Center. The program will be presented by Conner McCabe for the Youth Leadership Forum's trip to China. This will be Dutch treat lunch.

VFW Post 5406 is again selling 1-lb. bags of pecans for the holiday season.  You can purchase halves or pieces for $9 per bag.  Contact Herb Lowe at 270-8551, Skip Hocutt at 932-6025, or Marvin Odom at 270-0288.  All proceeds go to support VFW Post 5406.  Support our Veterans and purchase your pecans today.

The Fayette Music Study Club will meet Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Southside Baptist Church.  Heather Cotton, Delisa Hindman, and Lori Belski, directed by Jeanene Hindman, will perform "A Christmas Celebration."  The public is invited to attend.

Dogwood Productions will present the 14th annual presentation of "The Gospel According to Scrooge" Friday, December 5th at 7pm, Saturday, December 6th at 2pm and 7pm, and Sunday, December 7th at 2pm at the Fayette Civic Center. Tickets are just $10 each and are available locally at Feed My Sheep, The Fayette Civic Center, Bynum Olds, from any Dogwood Productions member, or by calling 932-3727or 932-1890. The Fayette Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, December 6th at noon.  Line up will be in the Fayette Square Shopping Center at 10:00am.  Anyone interested in having a float in the parade can call Marla Johnson at 270-8188 or Angie Stough at 270-1901.

Fayette Medical Center volunteers are accepting donations for the annual Hospice Holiday Baskets. Needed items include personal care products, small puzzle books, socks or slippers. Monetary donations are also appreciated. For more information, call Susan Hood at 932-1265. Please bring all donations to the Business office at Fayette Medical Center by December 15th.


Testing for Census 2010 employment opportunities will take place in Fayette County at the following times and locations:

  • Dec. 4, Bevill State Main Building, room 102, 1pm
  • Dec. 11, Berry Civic Center, 1pm
  • Dec. 15, Bevill State Main Building, room 102, 10am
  • Dec. 22, Glen Allen Community Center, 10am

-please bring two pieces of ID, such as driver's license, social security card, voter registration, or birth certificate when you come to test.


The new Fayette VA Family Outreach Team will be meeting Monday, Dec. 8th at 6:30 pm, in the new City Hall Chamber. All Veterans, families, employers, business owners, clergy, and any other interested citizens are invited to attend. The new services will be explained, such as PTSD counseling, depression, suicide, marriage counseling, employment, and eligibility for programs. Scheduling times for the counseling will be set. The College of Continuing Studies at The University of Alabama is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2009-2010 academic year for adult students, 25 years of age or older, facilitating their degree through the College of Continuing Studies. The Fayette Garden Club will judge the "Best Decorated Yards" December 16th beginning at 6pm. If you would like to enter your yard or someone else's please call Doris Brasher at 932-5314 or any Garden Club Member.

Fayette County Extension Office will hold a regional seminar on Soil Testing Procedures and Backyard Composting December 16th from 5-6:30pm. The seminar will be conducted by Nelson Wynn. To pre-register, call 932-8941. The seminar is free and open to the public.

Fayette Medical Center is selling Hospice Lovelights for the Lovelight Tree thru December 31st for a $5 donation. Make donations at the Fayette Medical Center Business Office window between 8am and 6pm. All proceeds will be used for Hospice projects.
